Safeguarding the environment
Starting with what we take from the planet all the way through to how we return it, we approach every aspect of our business with an eco-conscious mindset. We work with leading mills to develop eco-friendly fabrics and in 2020 we launched an eco-conscious line of apparel to inspire customers with more sustainable choices. Today, 50% of our core fabrics are made from sustainable materials. And to help ensure nothing goes to waste, in 2021 we donated over 5,000 pounds of excess fabric to be recycled for use in building materials and over $5.0 million in excess and returned product to charities—putting it to good use instead of in a landfill. From smaller hangtags made with recycled paper to digitized packing slips to shipping materials made from recycled plastic, no detail is too small. We are continually searching for ways to use less, and ensure what we do use is more sustainable.
Here are two of the more noteworthy programs we’ve put in place to reduce our environmental impact.
CarbonNeutral®
In 2021, we achieved CarbonNeutral® company certification in accordance with The CarbonNeutral Protocol, the leading global framework for carbon neutrality. To achieve CarbonNeutral certification we reduce our emissions as much as possible across our offices, fulfillment centers, supply chain and retail stores. We then compensate for unavoidable emissions by offsetting them through projects which reduce the equivalent amount of CO2.
thredUp
We wanted to extend the lifecycle of our products by giving them new life in a secondary market. So, in 2021, we launched our relationship with online consignment and thrift store, thredUP, to facilitate the resale of our apparel—keeping it in the gyms and out of the landfills. With the click of a button, customers can order a free “clean out” kit that helps them resell their Fabletics gear on thredUP’s site and earn credit to use on future Fabletics purchases.
